The accuracy of this measurement relies on the navigational aid station’s pulse emission rate being precise and consistent, as well as on the aircraft being able to accurately receive and process these pulses. DMEs are often used in conjunction with other navigation systems, such as VORs or GPS, to provide more precise information to the pilot. For example, a VOR station may also have a co-located DME station. This allows the pilot to determine both their bearing and range to the station.
